“This is a limb-swinging, gun-toting, knife-wielding, pulpy blast. Yumi totally kicks ass!”

- Liz Sagal, Writer on Netflix’s upcoming Cowboy Bebop series, Co-Producer & Writer on FX’s Sons of Anarchy.

We hope that quote at least gets you interested in our new graphic novel,  YUMI: SPY FATALE, BADDIE ROYALE. This is a really fun action book by Doug Wagner and Hoyt Silva, with covers by Loish, Eliza Ivanova, and Chris Brunner (see below). Like THOMAS RIVER, the YUMI book is done, so there's no chance you won't get what you pay for, and everyone will have digital copies as soon as the survey portion of the campaign is complete.

And since everyone here backed our last campaign, we're giving you access to check out the campaign before we start promoting it online with official announcements.

Here's a little info on the concept, and a link to the campaign at the end. We hope you dig it!

Yumi LOVES Richard!

But, Richard (MI-6’s greatest spy) has gone missing, and now Yumi will do anything to find him…burn down MI-6, send Paris into chaos, attack the city of Dubai, and even kill all his ex’s. Thinking about it, Yumi just might be the world’s greatest anti-spy.

It all started by chance, as Yumi met Richard at a coffee shop in Japan. It was love at first sight, and a storybook romance ensued. Yumi was head over heels in love. As the weeks went by, that love only grew stronger.

Until Richard disappeared without a trace.

Now, Yumi must find him at any cost, and that starts by taking matters into her own hands.

Did we mention that Yumi might be the most gifted hacker on the planet? And that she's been trained by one of the world's foremost experts in combat (that would be Ms. V.)? See, Yumi's dad is the founder and owner of the Tanuki Corporation, one of Japan's most prominent tech businesses, and he spared no expense training his daughter to be able to defend herself. The hacker part? Well, her dad was considered a tech-genius during his prime, so the apple didn't fall far from the tree; and in reality, Yumi is way more gifted than even he knows.

Needless to say, things are about to get crazy.

YUMI: SPY FATALE, BADDIE ROYALE is a modern-day spin on the spy-genre, told for a new generation. With a tone somewhere between Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and the Kingsman films, Yumi brings a breath of fresh air and an all-new spin on the action/spy stories we all love.

Book update, photos, and exciting news.
almost 4 years ago – Tue, Feb 09, 2021 at 01:38:32 PM

The latest update from the printer is that the books are in-route to our fulfillment center. We had a little hick-up that caused us to change fulfillment partners (just an issue with the original partner being overbooked) but we are very happy with where we landed, as these people specialize in comics.

We shared Brian’s unboxing video — at the link if you missed it: https://youtu.be/pxbZHgYtDBY

But here are some photos of the books, including the first of the Metal Cover, and it looks awesome!

Finally, we will have a special announcement tomorrow morning, and as you all backed THOMAS RIVER you’ll get it first, so be on the lookout.

Thanks again for all the support!

THOMAS RIVER #1 Unboxing Video!
almost 4 years ago – Tue, Feb 02, 2021 at 01:33:43 AM

Here's a little good news-- the books are at the port in Los Angeles and waiting to be cleared so they can go to a warehouse for pick-up and be transported to our fulfillment partner. This could take a week or it could take a few weeks before they are cleared, but at least the boat has made it in from Korea.

Also, the printer FedEx'd us a set of the books so we could check them out for ourselves; of course, we thought an unboxing video would be appropriate so that all of you could join in on the fun. Check it out below, and thanks for hanging in there with us!

Update on Printing & Distribution
almost 4 years ago – Mon, Dec 28, 2020 at 08:22:21 PM

I hope everyone is having a happy holiday season as we get ready to close out 2020.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the best update, as we have run into some issues with getting the books in your hands, and it’s one of those unforeseen issues related to COVID. We are using a great printer overseas, but due to port slowdowns and a shipping container shortage, they are having problems getting the books to our fulfillment partner. Basically, books typically leave the printer, go to the port, are cleared for pick-up in a few days, then head across the ocean to their final destination. However, due to COVID, instead of a few days it’s taking weeks to get the books on a cargo ship. This delay is from the other end of the chain, as ports in the US are moving at a much slower pace when it comes to getting shipments off the boat and to the warehouses where they can be picked up by the trucking companies. As a result, empty containers are not coming back in the normal time frame, so pallets of books are just sitting and waiting on shipping containers to return so they can be loaded and sent back to the USA. Basically, it’s a bit of a cluster all around.

The good news is I just received an updated itinerary from the printer, and now expect our books to be loaded onto the boat January 3rd, arriving at the port in the Los Angeles by January 14th. If all goes well, they will be at our fulfillment centers by the end of January and start shipping out soon after. We are sorry for the delays, but please know we are doing all we can to get these comics delivered.

Finally, right before Christmas it was brought to my attention that some of you have not received your digital reward download links from Backerkit. I heard from our rep today, and it looks like the glitch was fixed, so everyone should receive an email with a download link sometime today. If you don’t receive an email in the next 24 hours, please let me know.

I’ll be back with more frequent updates once the books start moving our way, but in the meantime, I hope those of you who’ve read the digital edition of THOMAS RIVER #1 have enjoyed it, and those of you who are getting it today will also get a kick out of it as well. Of course, we would love to hear your feedback.

And let me be the first to wish you all a Happy New Year; here's to a great 2021 (I think we all deserve it)!

Survey Update-- Please Respond As Soon As You Can
almost 4 years ago – Sat, Dec 05, 2020 at 12:34:28 PM

Thank you all for the speedy survey responses! The response rate has been fantastic, and currently sits at 75%.

Obviously it would be best to know where everyone is located before we ship the books from the printer to the fulfillment hubs, so if you see this update, please take a minute to complete your survey so we can get the books moving in your direction.

If you have not received a survey, hit this link to have it re-sent to your email address on file: https://thomasriver.backerkit.com/

If you don't see anything come in, first check your spam folder-- if it's not there, email us at [email protected] with an alternate email address and we'll go into Backerkit and change your contact settings. We've done this a few times and it seems to be working.

As always, please let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you,

-Keven
